Native plants are plants that are indigenous to Louisiana and support our states natural ecosystem. These plants can be a welcome addition in your garden or landscape over time, without expensive inputs. Native plants provide crucial habitat for pollinators and many beneficial insects' life cycles are dependent on native host plants including several species such as moths, butterflies, and native bee species. The attractive flowers provide vital nectar to these pollinators, while also providing fruit to biodiverse wildlife such as songbirds, rabbit, deer, turkey, quail, and other amphibians and reptiles. Native plant species are already adapted to Louisiana’s local environment and are more drought tolerant and flood resistant.
