Mansel S. Slaughter, a volunteer for over 35 years from East Baton Rouge Parish, made significant contributions to the 4-H program with a special interest in the livestock project. He tirelessly volunteered to help youth with the swine and beef projects, served as superintendent of the parish swine show and donated steers to youth who could not have participated in the program without his generosity. He also helped out at Achievement Day and at other 4-H events. Through his assistance with the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association Beef Month program, 4-H youth visited the mayor as an ambassador for the agricultural community. Slaughter Memorial Fund through the East Baton Rouge Parish 4-H Foundation. While serving in World War II, he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, four Battle Stars and the Victory Medal.
