While a 4-H agent in St. James Parish, George Simoneaux became known as the man of new ideas. In 1956, he and his coworkers developed a safety program involving volunteer leaders, business leaders and 4-H Clubs. In 1960, he transferred to East Baton Rouge Parish, joining the parish extension staff as a 4-H agent. Over 52 years, Simoneaux served 4-H youth in the capacity of 4-H agent, parish chair, volunteer, East Baton Rouge Parish 4-H Foundation president and 4-H advocate.
