Jefferson Parish
Year Inducted: 2012
Nancy R. Sarver has played a major role as a volunteer leader in Jefferson Parish for more than 34 years (1977-2012). Her creative programming has involved countless elementary urban youth in 4-H. She is an advocate for motivating youth by engaging them in Rocketry Design contests, sewing and commodity cookery contests, and poster and essay contests. She helps youth to grow into responsible and engaged members by conducting officer training workshops, fundraising activities and by assisting members with demonstrations, and project completions. A trademark of Mrs. Sarver’s 4-H clubs is involvement in community service and study projects. She guides 4-H members to visit nursing homes and to collect food, clothing, toys and school supplies for disadvantaged children. Her 4-H Club meetings often include guest speakers to talk to youth about community issues. To help members understand the importance of environmental responsibility, she guides youth to promote Litter Monster Campaigns and to recycle phone books, cans and pull tabs. She also provides guidance for Arbor Day and school gardening projects. Nancy R. Sarver has received numerous Teacher of the Year Awards and Jefferson Parish 4-H Leaders Awards, and she has attended the Southern Region 4-H Leader Forum.
