Sherian Reed was a “people person” with the unique ability to motivate people, especially youth, encouraging their educational and personal development. During her 53 years of 4-H involvement, she was a member, club officer, 4-H agent, home economist, parish chair and volunteer. During this time, Avoyelles had numerous state officers, including consecutive state presidents. and one won the Presidential Tray, 4-H's highest national award. Because of her encouragement, the State 4-H Constitution was written during one of her 4-H member's presidency. Sherian also led Avoyelles in organizing one of Louisiana’s first junior leader clubs, which then traveled to neighboring parishes promoting teen leadership. Sherian’s philosophy was 4-H should be “fun,” and she was a “cheerleader” for her members. She was a mentor for new agents and conducted workshops from records to demonstration techniques.
