Calvin LeBouef first became involved in 4-H as a livestock leader in 1978 when he was recruited by the late Cecil McCrory to serve as weigh master for steers, commercial heifers, lambs and hogs. He has worked in that same position for the Louisiana Cattle Festival and has served as rings man for the sale of market animals for 36 years.

Calvin was actively involved with the 4-H Handicapped Horse program, providing training and horses to ride, and organizing trail rides and clinics for youth. He helped organize and ran 4-H roping clinics and the Vermilion 4-H Trail Ride, and has given freely of his time for any 4-H activity.

Using his influence as a member of the board of directors for the Cattlemen’s Association and Farm Bureau, he solicited significant funds for parish 4-H activities. After the devastation to southwest Louisiana by Hurricane Rita, he spearheaded the rescue of livestock from flooded areas.

Calvin was named 1995 Vermilion Parish Achievement Day honoree, Outstanding Parish Cattleman and Spur Award and to the Louisiana Cattle Festival Hall of Fame. Calvin and his wife Loraine are always available to lend a helping hand to Vermilion 4-H youth.
