Dot Veillon has played numerous roles during her involvement in the Calcasieu 4-H program (1960-2013) as a member, organizational leader, livestock and clothing project leader and advisory committee member. She became a volunteer leader when her children joined 4-H and enrolled in the sheep project. Her greatest contribution to 4-H has been in the areas of livestock and clothing. She was an instrumental leader in the development of the parish premier sheep exhibitor program, and she helped set up the content, conduct the skill-a-thon session and secure awards. She serves as chair of the buckle committee, which raises money for livestock awards and ribbons. Dot worked to organize the parish “Sheep Supporters,” a group that provides recognition for sheep exhibitors in the form of showmanship and premier exhibitor awards. When the 4-H program faced tight budget constraints, Dot raised money to purchase sheep project books for members.
