Dr. Jack Bagent, retired vice chancellor of the LSU AgCenter and director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, became involved in 4-H as a young boy in elementary school. He credits 4-H with giving him educational and travel opportunities that were otherwise unavailable to him in his rural environment. In 1964 he became entomology specialist for the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, and in 1973 he became a division leader. He became director in 1995 and served for six years. During his 37-year career with the Extension Service, Dr. Bagent made major contributions to 4-H at the local, state and national levels. He also earned a reputation as an expert entomologist and a caring leader. He was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in 2002.
