The Wetland Ambassadors Team is a statewide leadership and career-readiness opportunity for 4-H members in 9th-12th grade with an interest in conservation offered by Louisiana 4-H through the Youth Wetlands Program.
Objective: To inspire youth to become leaders for wetland-related issues in their community by promoting wetlands literacy through immersive field study, mentorship, service learning, and public outreach activities.
The Wetland Ambassadors participate in a variety of activities to grow and apply their knowledge and leadership skills throughout the program year. Ambassadors lead educational wetlands activities at 4-H events, local community events, and other opportunities across the state. Ambassadors attend retreats and educational experiences that help them expand their wetlands-related knowledge and understanding of coastal issues, improve their leadership skills such as public speaking, and gain professional skills such as teamwork and project management. They can also participate in conservation-related service projects such as litter cleanups and installing Wood duck nesting boxes. Across all of these activities, the ambassadors explore different careers and network with professionals.

The application process for all Louisiana 4-H State Ambassador and Leadership Boards begins around early March and ends in late June, each year. To start, contact your parish 4-H agent to receive a copy of the Louisiana 4-H State Leadership Opportunities Application Packet (usually available by early March). Then, complete and submit the written application for the Wetland Ambassadors by the deadline. Then, applicants will be selected and notified to participate in the interview round which is usually held in late May or June. During the interview round, applicants will answer questions from a panel of judges and give a short presentation. Then, final selections will be made and the new Wetland Ambassadors will be announced during 4-H University in late July.
