About 4-H banner. Beyond Ready.

Empowering Youth, Building Communities, Growing the Future.

Who We Are

Louisiana 4-H is more than a program—it's a launchpad. Powered by the LSU AgCenter and part of the national Cooperative Extension System, we prepare young people to lead today and thrive tomorrow. Through hands-on learning and mentorship, youth across Louisiana build the skills to step up, speak out, and serve with purpose

What is 4-H?

The name “4-H” stands for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health—the four values that guide what we do.

  • 4-H Motto: “To make the best better.”
  • 4-H Slogan: “Learn by doing.”

I pledge my Head to clearer thinking,
My Heart to greater loyalty,
My Hands to larger service,
And my Health to better living,
For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

Our Story

From corn clubs in the early 1900s to coding, conservation, and civic leadership today—Louisiana 4-H has always evolved to meet the needs of youth. Nationally launched through the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, 4-H remains a vital bridge between research and real life learning. We prepare youth for the future by tackling today’s biggest challenges—together.

Positive Youth Development (PYD)

Our mission isn’t just to educate—it’s to activate. At the core of everything we do is the science of Positive Youth Development (PYD). We create environments where youth:

  • Feel a sense of belonging
  • Develop mastery in their interests
  • Grow independence
  • Show generosity through service

These essential elements ensure youth are not only beyond ready for life—they’re prepared to lead it.
