The Louisiana Educational Award Trip (7th& 8th Grade) is an awards trip for seventh and eighth grade state winners from the state 4- H records contest. The trip has received a recent overhaul and is now focused on cultural awareness and community service. The trip is set on a rotation between Shreveport, Lafayette, and New Orleans, and is held in January, the weekend of the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday.
The Beef & Sheep Educational Award trip is available to 4-H & FFA members that participate in the beef or sheep project. The Beef & Sheep Educational Award Trip takes place each year at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Kentucky during the month of November. 4-H and FFA members competing for the Beef & Sheep Educational Award Trip must be between the ages of 12 and 18 years by January 1st of the current year. Only one animal per club member will be eligible to make the trip, and a club member can participate in only one Livestock Educational Award Trip in any given year. Selection Contest for the trip (Market Steers, Breeding Heifers, Market Lambs and Breeding Ewes) will be held at the State Fair of Louisiana in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Goat Educational Award trip is available to 4-H & FFA members that participate in the goat project. The Goat Educational Award Trip takes place each year in July. 4-H and FFA Members may travel to Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas for educational tours. 4-H and FFA members competing for the Goat Educational Award Trip must be between the ages of 12 and 18 years by January 1st of the current year. Transportation, meals, lodging and educational activities will be provided for all exhibitors selected to attend the educational trip. Only exhibitors entered and showing at the LSU State show are eligible to try for the goat educational trip. Winners will be selected at the LSU State livestock show held in February in Gonzales, Louisiana.
The
State 4-H Fashion Board along with the 4-H U Fashion Revue Ready to Wear
contest winner participate in a 4-H Fashion Field Study. During the summer, the
State 4-H Fashion Board meets to create a plan and work throughout the year to
create a plan of work for the year, to finalize plans, rehearse, and implement
their statewide activities, and to participate in a fashion industry field
study rotating from Baton Rouge/New Orleans, and New York City. During the summer field study, 4-H Fashion
Board Members may interact with fashion designers, museum curators, university
clothing and textile professors as well as magazine illustrators, merchandisers,
retail managers and visual promotion directors.
Fashion is a fast, fascinating and ever-changing industry and the
fashion field study provides a taste of it’s multifaceted options for careers.
The Great American Seafood Cook-off: 4-H Edition Held in New Orleans, LA in conjunction with the Louisiana Restaurant Association Expo; usually the first weekend in August. GASCO contest is held that Sunday at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The purpose of the trip is to advance state winners of seafood cook-off contests and to promote Louisiana seafood and healthier lifestyles. The Southern region states are invited to send up to 2 teams of 3-4 members. In Louisiana, teams qualify through the Next Healthy 4-H Seafood Star contest held at 4-H University.
The Louisiana 4-H Educational Trip is hosted in November for 4-H youth members who have qualified through their participation in such events as 4-H University, Commodity Ambassador, or other deemed competitions. The trip rotates annually between San Antonio, TX, Chattanooga, TN, and the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX areas. The four-day, three-night trip allows approximately 40 youth to experience new sites and locations as well as making new life-long friends.
On Thanksgiving weekend, more than 800 delegates from
throughout the United States and its territories will come together in Atlanta,
GA to participate in the annual National 4-H Congress. The program is a mix of
educational, service, and recreational opportunities. The City of Atlanta and
the Hyatt Regency Atlanta will roll out the red carpet to make 4-H member’s
stay exceptional. Louisiana 4-H members can win this trip to National 4-H
Congress winning specific 4-H University Contest and competing in State 4-H Record
Books.
The Congress program will provide opportunities for you to
explore a variety of Atlanta attractions that include Martin Luther King Center
for Non-Violent Change, Centennial Olympic Park, World of Coca-Cola, The
Atlanta Zoo, Atlanta History Center, and the Georgia Aquarium. In addition,
participants will attend workshops designed to develop your leadership skills,
attend plenary Sessions with outstanding speakers and entertainers, take part in
hands-on service projects, and take tours and recreational opportunities
throughout the city.
The National 4-H Forestry Invitational is the national championship of 4-H forestry! Each year, since 1980, teams of 4-H foresters from all over the United States have come to Jackson's Mill State 4-H Conference Center at Weston, WV, to meet, compete, and have fun! The top four (4) individuals that participate in 4-H University will work together to compete as a team at the National 4-H Forestry Invitational. The National contest traditional takes place at the end of July.
Daisy Outdoor Products and other organizations annually sponsor the Shooting Education Program to teach young people gun safety and introduce them to the sport of shooting. The Daisy Nationals is, above all, a family event, with opening and closing ceremonies, parade of teams and many other events that make the Nationals far more than a shooting match.
Qualify: Top 3 placing teams can qualify from State 4-H BB Gun Match.
To attend this trip, the 4-H member needs to be on the
winning Meat Judging Team at 4-H University. The National 4-H Meat
Evaluation & Identification Contest is held in October as part of the
American Royal Livestock Show. The contest is hosted by Kansas State University
in Manhattan, Kansas. Youth attend educational tours on the way to the contest,
participate in official judging, then attend an awards breakfast for
contestants.
The National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference recognizes
senior 4-H members who are 14 years of age as of January 1, and who have won
the Poultry
Judging Contest that takes place at 4-H University. The National 4-H Poultry and Egg
Conference helps develop leadership and decision-making skills in youth who are
interested in poultry and poultry products.
The Orlando Leadership Trip is a premier 4-H experience that involves learning about service, SET and leadership. The trip takes place in Orlando, Florida. While the itinerary varies from year to year, previous trips have included visits to Disney World, Universal Studios and the Kennedy Space Center. 4-H members who have previously won the 4-H Congress trip qualify to compete for this trip through the 4-H Records Contest.
The 2022 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships will be held
June 26- July 1, 2022 in Grand Island, Nebraska at the Heartland Public
Shooting Park. The event is hosted by Nebraska 4-H. 4-H youth from across the
country will compete in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air
pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzle loading, and hunting skills.
Qualify: Top 4 placing individuals in each discipline can
qualify from the State 4-H Match.
Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships
During the LSU AgCenter 4-H/FFA Horse Show each July, Louisiana 4-H members may qualify to compete in educational contests at the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships in Perry, GA. The Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships is typically held the last week of July/first week of August. The senior division state winners in the following contest are given the opportunity to participate in the trip: individual demonstration, team demonstration, public speaking, premier exhibitor, horse judging, and quiz bowl.
