The Dairy Cattle Judging Contest is a dynamic opportunity for 4-H youth to showcase their skills in evaluating dairy cattle based on physical characteristics and dairy qualities. Participants will judge up to six classes of dairy cattle, including both heifers and cows.

What's Involved?

  • Judging Classes: Analyze and rank dairy cattle based on conformation and dairy traits.
  • Oral Reasons: Present up to three sets of oral reasons to justify placements, demonstrating communication and critical thinking.
  • Age Requirement: Open to youth ages 14–19 as of January 1, 2026.
  • Team Entries: Each parish may enter 1 to 8 individuals.

Awards & Opportunities

The first-place team will earn an exclusive trip to the Dairy Conference in Wisconsin, where they’ll connect with industry leaders and deepen their knowledge of dairy science.
