The 4-H Horse Judging Contest empowers youth to develop expertise in evaluating horses based on conformation, structural correctness, balance, breed characteristics, and movement. Participants will judge both halter and performance classes, guided by standards from the current 4-H Horse Show rules.

Contest Details

  • Classes Judged:
    • Up to 4 halter classes
    • Up to 3 performance classes
  • Oral Reasons:
    • Deliver at least 2 sets to explain placings
  • Performance Classes May Include:
    • Western Pleasure
    • Western Horsemanship
    • Reining
    • Ranch Riding
    • Ranch Rail
    • Hunter Under Saddle
    • Hunt Seat Equitation

Eligibility

  • Age Range: 14–19 years old as of January 1, 2025
  • Team Size: Parishes may enter 1 to 8 individuals


Awards & Advancement

The first-place team will represent Louisiana at the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Judging Contest in Georgia, gaining exposure to regional competition and equine industry professionals.
