Disaster Recovery

Nutrition assistance and food safety are essential in times of disaster. On this page, you will find information and resources on food access and food safety before, during and after natural disasters. Remember to check your local news and social media for announcements about food distribution sites and other recovery resources.

Food Safety in Disasters or Emergencies

Don’t forget about food safety during emergency situations. In the event of emergencies such as floods, fires, loss of power, or other natural disasters, use the links below to find out how to keep food safe before, during, and after the emergency.

Replacement SNAP Benefits

SNAP recipients may be eligible for replacements in the event of power outages lasting more than 24 hours. If you have been affected by recent power outages, apply for replacement SNAP benefits here.

DSNAP for Disaster Relief

Households affected by hurricanes or other natural disasters may be eligible to receive Disaster Supplemental Assistance Program (DSNAP) benefits. DSNAP provides low- to moderate-income households help buying groceries following a disaster. DSNAP or Disaster SNAP is for households that do not normally receive SNAP benefits. Replacement SNAP is for households that do normally receive SNAP benefits. Pre-registering for DSNAP will speed up the application process if DSNAP is ordered for your parish after a disaster. Learn more and pre-register for DSNAP benefits here.

P-EBT (food support during COVID)

The COVID-19 pandemic created significant financial hardships across the state. As a result, the Department of Children and Family Services is providing additional food support to those who qualify. Learn more about the P-EBT program here.
