Building Performance Institute (BPI) Field Exams
Need to take a field exam for Energy Auditor or Building Analyst Technician? We can proctor these field exams and offer a walk through prior to testing (up to one hour) with a copy of the field guide. These can be hosted for renewals or initial certification as long as documentation is provided that demonstrates the candidate's eligibility to test.
Homeowner Course: Home Maintenance Basics
Come learn how to take care of your home, increase its efficiency, work with wall repair and air sealing materials, and learn when to call a contractor vs. when to do it yourself. This course will review a home maintenance calendar, offer tips for DIY projects in the home, and offer hands-on practice.
All firms that perform renovation, repair or painting work that disturb lead-based paint in housing and other child-occupied facilities built before 1978 are required to be certified. (Child-occupied facilities are those where children under age six are present on a regular basis.) The RRP rule applies to all interior projects involving more than 6 square feet, exterior projects of more than 20 square feet and all window replacement, maintenance or repair.
This 3-day course provides technicians and contractors with the information and method training needed to successfully perform safe and effective mold remediation -- with the goals of restoring and maintaining a healthy indoor environment and property protection. The course will cover industry standards and procedures as well as provide participants with a working knowledge of mold characteristics, moisture dynamics and building science principles that are crucial to both mold removal and control.
Become a certified Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier qualified to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the current residential energy codes and report results for code compliance. LaHouse Resource Center is an authorized provider of the Southface Energy Institute training, exam and certification.
The Gulf Region High Performance (GRHP) Home Professional (GRHP) designation was developed to recognize and identify professionals who completed a core educational program online and passed a test to verify knowledge of Best Building Practices for the Gulf Region and Wind Resistant Construction.
Breathe Easy: Ventilation and Moisture Management
Learn about types of home ventilation, ventilation regulation, equipment options, and how ventilation can help with comfort and health as well as moisture management. This course is beneficial for homeowners, contractors, and weatherization professionals.
The Building Science Principles certificate, offered by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), provides a comprehensive review of fundamental building systems and their interactions in regulating the home environment and influencing energy consumption. This certificate serves as a prerequisite for BPI's Building Analyst - Technician Certification.

The training concludes with a field exam administered by a BPI proctor. Completion of this course and certification is a prerequisite for obtaining the Building Analyst - Professional certification.

NEAT / MHEA Auditing Software Training
This training is a refresher on how to use the ORNL Energy Modeling Software tool to audit a residential single-family home or mobile home. The training is worth BPI Credits and is primarily for Weatherization Assistance Program professionals. Training includes editing libraries, independently running a NEAT and a MHEA audit, and creating a work scope. The training will also review common error messages and problems.
Building Analyst - Professional
This Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification training encompasses the utilization of building assessment data, including identifying the most beneficial retrofits, calculating the savings-to-investment ratio of measures, recognizing consumption patterns and areas of concern in utilities, utilizing energy modeling software, and developing an appropriate work scope for the home. The course concludes with a multiple-choice certification exam administered by a BPI proctor.
