Durability and Hazards

Shandy Heil, Skinner, Patricia

Since November 2005, home building and home restoration in Louisiana are subject to provisions of the State Uniform Construction Code, which is adpated from the International Residential Code. These codes contain provisions that address resistance to flood, wind and rain damage, termite infestation, and decay.

Whether you are bound by building codes, or simply recognize these threats to the safety and durability of your home, there are things you can do to reduce your vulnerability. Remember that building codes provide minimum standards for protection from increasing threats;  exceeding minimum code requirements often provides protection longer into the future.
