In 2003, FEMA began modernizing its Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), updating flood risk information and creating maps in digital form. This process in Louisiana was fast-tracked following the 2005 hurricane season. To support community involvement in the transition to new maps, web sites have been developed that display the existing FIRMs, advisory information, and the preliminary Digital FIRMs. This page describes those support systems in Louisiana.
