Many homes are elevated by removing them from the slab. It is possible to raise brick veneer, but more often than not the brick is removed prior to lifting. The graphic illustrates raising walls and roof and replacing the floor.
Raise the entire house, including floor, walls and roof. Although slabs present more of a challenge for elevating, slabs have been elevated in South Louisiana. The graphic illustrates this concept.
A third technique is to raise or remove the roof, extend the walls upward, and build a new floor at the desired elevation. What was once the living area is wet floodproofed and abandoned. Recent tests indicate the method should not be used when the original block wall was subject to prolonged salt water flooding.
