LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices to create more sustainable, resilient and healthy homes in the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays home-building techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

Laminated glass windows have two layers that are bonded together by a clear layer in the middle for impact resistance against flying debris. If the glass is struck during a storm, the middle layer ensures that broken glass does not shatter on the floor. In addition to these two panes, a third is added with a small space between them for insulation.
Laminated glass protects your windows from debris during a storm, and it filters out UV rays which can damage furniture and upholstery in the home.
Vinyl frames are the cheapest window framing option in LaHouse, but they are incredibly energy efficient when installed correctly. Insulated vinyl windows have hollow cavities which are filled with insulation to keep temperatures comfortable despite the weather.
Low-e glass means the heat contact on the exterior side of the windows does not radiate inside the home.
While traditional metal doors are not very energy efficient, insulated metal doors are a great option to insulate the home, increase energy efficiency, and increase durability.
Insulated metal doors have two pieces of metal on either side of a thermal break which keeps the home well insulated. Additionally, the metal is very durable and can last a very long time if properly maintained.
Because this door has a slightly more raised threshold, it features a small threshold ramp that would make using this door safer for those who use a wheelchair. This model is an example of how threshold ramps come in a variety of colors and patterns that mimic flooring to blend into the rest of the room.
Impact rated doors, unlike typical doors, are not hollow to provide storm protection as they can withstand high velocity debris during bad storms.
Laminated glass keeps the home at a comfortable temperature without more work from the HVAC system
