It is important to choose furniture that is lead-free, especially in a young child’s bedroom as they are more vulnerable to lead poisoning and its effects. Lead test strips are available at most hardware stores to double check any vintage furniture for lead.
Cork is both a sustainable and durable flooring material.
Cork flooring is resistant to cracks or abrasions and will not be damaged by heavy furniture like other wood floors. It is also antimicrobial and resistant to mold and mildew. Cork is also fire resistant as it can only ignite in extremely high temperatures.
Cork comes in various colors and can come as tiles or planks to work in any room. While cork is a more expensive and less common material to use, other options, like bamboo, are less expensive and give the same benefits of cork.
Organic bedding is made without harmful additives that can be toxic. Children are more susceptible to the damage done by harmful additives, which is why choosing organic fabrics around the home is ideal.
