When installing your ductwork to vent your kitchen exhaust outside, choosing the shorted path to the outside of your home is best. The shortest and straightest run is the best for the power and efficiency of your vent hood.
An inline motor has an internal blower which is in the hood itself. The unit is self-contained, meaning the hood, blower motor, filters, fan controls, and lighting are all in one box. Internal blowers are noisier than external blowers. The motor in this application is in the duct to avoid the typical noise concern with inline hood exhausts.
The power for the unit is in the wall to avoid an unnecessary roof penetration which commonly leads to leaks.
