LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices to create more sustainable, resilient and healthy homes in the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays home-building techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

The washer and dryer are energy-star rated. Energy-star washers and dryers use only a fraction of the energy and water compared to traditional models. They can do larger loads of laundry compared to typical machine models.
Front loading washers, in general, tend to perform better than top-loading models because they rely on gravity to move clothes throughout the drum rather than a twisting mechanism. Even if it is not Energy Star rated, front-load washers use less water per load than top-load.
Elevated appliances reduce the need to rebuy appliances in the event of a flood as the elevation protects them from flood waters.
Elevating appliances also makes them more accessible to a person with a disability or limited mobility as they can reach them without needing to bend.
Dryer vents allow the excess heat generated during the dryer cycle to escape, which helps to prevent fires.
Stainless steel sinks are durable, especially 16-18 gauge. It is also very low maintenance and resistant to chipping or cracking.
A back-to-back interior plumbing wall is whenever the plumbing wall of one room backs directly to another. In this case, the utility room plumbing is directly connected to the master bedroom plumbing.
This is also called having a “wet wall,” and it can save money in construction costs as it reduces the amount of building material required and can be easily accessed by a plumber.
