LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices to create more sustainable, resilient and healthy homes in the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays home-building techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

House 3 ft. above flood BFE

Experience the Lahouse via virtual tour

LaHouse is built 3 feet above base flood elevation to reduce the risk of flooding. Building a home above your area’s BFE can reduce flood insurance premiums and how often you’ll need to repair your home after a flood.

It is recommended that some homes be elevated further above the base flood elevation. To determine the most cost-effective freeboard height for your home, visit floodsafehome.lsu.edu and the Louisiana Flood map portal.

Ramp for access to any entry and garage

There is an available ramp to access any entryway, including the garage, for anyone that uses a wheelchair or has trouble using the stairs.

Unobtrusive design integration

Wheelchair accessible features are well integrated into the home and are unobtrusive.
