LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices sustainable, resilient and healthy home building practices for the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

South-facing windows allow direct sunlight to heat the room during the winter months. The breakfast porch is strategically placed to allow for passive cooling via a breeze in the summer months and warmth during the winter.
The breakfast porch features clear film lightweight panels that cascade to open and are easily removable. The porch can be converted to a screen porch or sunroom to be used in all seasons.
The brick floor can absorb the sun’s rays during the day and dissipate the heat to warm the room passively without the use of electricity.
A continuous load path connects every piece of your home’s structure together like a chain. This is critical during a hurricane because it helps hold your home together when winds try to pull it apart.
This is a component of the FORIFIED standard, an optional standard that is highly resistant to high winds.
Composite is moisture and mold resistant. Any mold that grows cannot penetrate the material easily and can be washed off.
