Accordion hurricane shutters collapse and fold like an accordion. They are manually operated and must be locked into place to ensure effectiveness.
These are a more affordable option. In most cases, the price usually falls within the range of $15-$25 per square foot of window. In a typical home, statistics show accordion shutters cost an average of $3,500.
Hurricane shutters are impact rated and protect against wind borne debris. They are made of steel or aluminum.
Accordion shutters can be opened from the inside or the outside. Some accordion shutters can be locked with a key on the inside or outside to secure them shut.
Accordion shutters are installed permanently. They require a roller-carriage system, in which they slide open and closed. They save money and time compared to installing metal or plywood hurricane panels for every high wind event.
These shutters stay hidden on the side of windows and can be locked shut very quickly when needed
