LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices to create more sustainable, resilient and healthy homes in the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays home-building techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

Kevlar is the most popular material used to reinforce a safe room as it is very durable. When kevlar is adequately embedded in the walls, it protects the room from high projectile debris during hurricanes and tornadoes.

The door is firmly secured in the frame – at the top, bottom, and center latch points – with sturdy heavy-duty steel components.
A foundation anchor extends below the home and into the soil and uses the tightly compacted soil to anchor and secure the foundation wall. This creates a continuous load path which acts like a chain and keeps the home secured during high wind events.
Foundation anchors can also be used to repair a home with foundation problems or bowing or buckling walls.
