LaHouse is a display of high-performance building practices to create more sustainable, resilient and healthy homes in the gulf region. The research-based facility is located on LSU's Baton Rouge campus and displays home-building techniques and solutions for Louisiana's unique climate. LaHouse is open weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 p.m. for self-guided tours or can be toured completely virtually.

Polycarbonate panels have a vertical mounting track that needs to be installed once with detachable panels that can be added before a storm.
Polycarbonate is considered one of the best materials to protect windows as it is virtually unbreakable. In addition, most are translucent to allow some light, in case the power goes out during a storm.
The panels are kept on with wing nuts and bolts and do not require any tools to put up. They are much less labor intensive compared to boarding up windows. Still, they require more work than simply closing hurricane shutters. The storm door panel has track mounts built into the slab to protect the door.
