Please join Lafourche Parish 4-H in welcoming our newest 4-H Agent, Miss Toni Cortez! A Southeast Louisiana native and proud former Lafourche Parish 4-H member, Miss Toni earned a bachelor’s degree in Plant and Soil Systems from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in Marine and Environmental Biology from Nicholls State University. Toni brings experience in STEM education, outreach, and leadership through her work as a clinical researcher with ICON plc, a teaching assistantship at Nicholls State University, and as an intern with the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program. Because 4-H played such an important role in her childhood, she is excited to return to the program in a professional capacity and give back to the community that helped shape her. In her free time, Toni enjoys reading, crafting, gaming, and spending time with loved ones and her pets. She looks forward to serving the youth and families of Lafourche Parish through the 4-H program.
On August 27th, the Lafourche Parish 4-H family gathered in the Ag Building to share some of the many opportunities 4-H has to offer to youth and adults from throughout the parish. Attendees were able to visit with youth and adult 4-H volunteers who shared their knowledge of various 4-H programs and opportunities in an open house format. Through the food drive, Lafourche 4-H was able to donate to the local food bank to address food insecurity in the parish. An event of this magnitude would not be possible without all the many volunteers who created table displays, helped with set-up, and shared their love and knowledge of all things 4-H with our parish families. Thank you to all who attended and who made the event possible. Congratulations to Raceland Upper Elementary and Chackbay Elementary for winning the attendance contest! Their 4-H clubs will receive treats at their next 4-H meetings for the greatest number of attendees at the event! We can’t wait to see all our new members and their families at this year’s 4-H events!

Join 4-H'ers around the country in celebrating National 4-H Week during the week of Oct. 4-10, 2026. The school week kicks off on Monday, October 5th with National Go Green Day! Schools and clubs are encouraged to celebrate the beginning of National 4-H Week on this day! This week is set aside by the Cooperative Extension Service and 4-H Clubs in each state to focus attention on the value of 4-H.Through their 4-H clubs, they have fun, make friends, explore new adventures, and develop skills for future success! Louisiana engages more than 113,000 youth in areas including agriculture, STEM, healthy living, leadership and the environment! Lafourche Parish has approximately 800 members in 35 school 4-H clubs. Observed since 1927, National 4-H Week has been a time for 4-H members and their volunteer leaders to celebrate all that is wonderful in 4-H! To celebrate the week, we are sponsoring a Show Your 4-H Pride Contest. We would like each club to create a display to put outside in front of your school. The theme is Beyond Ready. Some of the things the judges will look for are creativity, involvement of the 4-H’ers, appeal, and originality. We want the community to see them, so be creative! We will award First Place and Honorable Mention for each division (Elementary, Middle, Senior, and K-12).Judging begins on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.More details will be sent to club leaders.

Please call the 4-H Office at 446-1316 as soon as possible if you are a new exhibitor interested in showing livestock or horses in 4-H during this school year so you can receive information on any upcoming events. There are important deadlines that need to be met and are posted on the website. Possession dates for each species are as follows:
As in past years, all market animals and commercial breeding animals are required to be validated through a process of collecting hair samples. The animals are then tagged and “validated”. The validation process is a bit different this year, as your 4-H agent must be present during validation procedures. To make this happen, we have decided to host a "Validation Drive-Through," event at the 4-H office. During the event, exhibitors will bring their show animals to the office. Hair samples and validation fees will be collected, and ear tags will be administered.
We are planning to host the Validation Drive-Through events on:
Please contact Toni Cortez by emailing tcortez@agcenter.lsu.edu to let us know what day you plan to attend. Animals must be validated and entered in 4-H online by the possession deadlines listed above. These are hard deadlines, so we recommend completing your 4-H online entries early! If you need assistance or have any questions, please call Toni Cortez at the 4-H office at 985-446-1316.
