This contest is open to all 4-H club members. Contestants must begin project with at least 25 birds (may get more than 25 if you wish.) The birds will be heavy broiler type chickens, to be ordered and delivered by the 4-H agents to the Agriculture Building in Raceland.
Your chicks must be purchased through the 4-H office to verify age and type. Your order and money must be in the 4-H agent’s office on or before October 7, 2019. Please “do not” turn in your order to your 4-H leader. The chicks will cost $70.00 per 100 or $35.00 per 50 or $17.50 per 25. The chicks will be delivered on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Have someone at the Agriculture Building to pick them up and bring them home for you and make sure you to bring a box to carry them home in.
The parish contest has been set for Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Poultry Day at the Agriculture Building in Raceland. Your chicks should be 6 weeks old on that date. Each contestant will bring his or her best three (only 3) birds to compete in the contest in Raceland. Your three birds will be judged according to finish, fleshing, feathering, weight, general appearance of the birds and uniformity. A Top Ten pen of birds will be selected and the remaining pens will be placed in ribbon groups: Purple, Blue, and Red. Do Not buy chicks for layers.
