4-H Virtual Recess: Fighting Germs


  • Lotion
  • Glitter
  • Paper Towels
  • Bucket (to catch the glitter

Activity Steps:

  1. Put a small amount of hand lotion in each hand. Rub all over hands.
  2. Sprinkle, over a bucket, a small amount of glitter into each hands.
  3. Rub hands to spread glitter germs evenly.
  4. Try to get the glitter germs off with plain, cold water.
  5. After that use warm water, with soap, to get the glitter germs off.

Food Factoid: Did you know? Adults and children should wash their hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds each time:

  • After using the bathroom
  • Before and after handling food or eating
  • After playing with pets or visiting a petting zoo After coughing or sneezing
  • Whenever they are dirty

A little glitter can demonstrate how to fight germs.
