LSU AgCenter partners with Louisiana Tech University for timber tax workshop

(01/19/18) RUSTON, La. — A workshop focusing on tax rules and issues relative to forest landowners is set for Feb. 9 at Lomax Hall on the Louisiana Tech University campus in Ruston.

The LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Tech University is coordinating the workshop, which is designed to help foresters, landowners, accountants and tax preparers gain a better understanding of tax issues unique to timber and timberland.

Topics will cover tax rules, cost deduction, timber basis, timber income accountability, casualty loss and expense management.

LSU AgCenter forest economist Shaun Tanger and U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service tax specialist Linda Wang are the featured presenters.

All participants will receive a workbook with presentation materials, example worksheets and sample forms, and a 170-page timber tax handbook.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Pre-registration is due Feb. 1 with a fee of $40 per person and $60 per couple. Late registration increases to $50 per person and $70 per couple. Lunch will be provided.

Lomax Hall is located on Lomax Drive at Peach Street on the south campus of the university.
