Work Location: The position will be based at the Southeast Region Office in Hammond, LA or a more suitable location within the region.

Job Description: The Southeast Region consist of 16 parishes. Within the list of parishes are the Baton Rouge and Orleans metro areas as well as other urban, suburban and rural parishes. Due to the diversity of the region, programming will be required to meet the needs of all children and youth as well as technical skills for volunteers. The Regional Coordinator is charged with providing leadership for the 4-H and Youth Development program. The position reports administratively to the Regional Director. The Regional Director will conduct an annual evaluation of the coordinator considering input from the Head of the 4-H State Office. The coordinator is responsible for administratively supporting 4-H agents in selecting and implementing program priorities, providing training for agents and successfully implementing and evaluating effective and innovative programs that lead to measurable gains among children and youth audiences. The coordinator will collaborate with parish chairs in their joint responsibility for evaluating performance of 4-H and Youth Development Agents including making promotion or specialization recommendations to the regional director.

Qualification Requirements: A master’s degree in education, vocational education, youth development, agriculture education, agriculture leadership, family and consumer sciences or closely related field. Extension experience is desirable. Must have a master’s degree with an overall grade-point average of at least 3.0. A Ph.D. or youth development specialization is preferred. Prior years of experience working with youth is desirable. The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in teaching and applying principles of leadership development to youth and adults is also desired. Knowledge of public relations and building community-based and non-profit partnerships is necessary. The ability to cope with change is a highly desirable characteristic. Ability to work with and through others is essential as is the ability to function with minimum supervision.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Conditions of Employment: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required (travel allowance provided).Satisfactory completion of one specific graduate level extension courses (3 credit hours) is generally required in the first 2 years of employment.
