Location: The LSU Agricultural Center is a statewide organization with offices in every parish of Louisiana. The administrative headquarters, including the Human Resource Management Office, are located in Baton Rouge.
About the LSU Agricultural Center: The LSU AgCenter is one of nine campuses within the broader LSU enterprise (LSU System). The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 “on campus” academic departments and five regions which are made up of 16 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish. Many AgCenter faculty hold joint appointments with the College of Agriculture so coordination is important.
Position Description: The Human Resource Staff Specialist serves as the primary resource for new academic and unclassified employees on employment matters. The incumbent of this position manages the human resources onboarding process for new hires ensuring that they complete necessary paperwork and are entered into the Workday system. Processes hire transactions for certain classes of temporary employees of the AgCenter as well. The incumbent handles the recruiting phase for unclassified employees. Works with department heads and administration to advertise and fill vacancies as they occur. Sets up search committees in the Workday system and serves as a point of contact for any departmental issues with the recruitment process. Processes background checks on potential hires as needed. Assists units with questions and concerns on Graduate Assistantships and student worker hires.
The HR Specialist serves as the lead on immigration services for the AgCenter. Handles immigration related services for employees, interfaces with departmental staff regarding visa options, processes paperwork necessary for work visa requests. Updates and maintains compliance information for international hires. Researches and communicates information on immigration related updates and regulations that may affect hiring and employment practices.
Completes projects and research on matters related to regular job duties. Assists other HR staff members on projects or large assignments as requested. Maintains working knowledge of relevant employment laws, regulations, and programs in order to ensure that information shared with employees and departments is accurate and complete.
Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to the duties of the position and 2+ years of experience in Human Resources or closely related field. Experience in working with various key stakeholders. Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and action plans. Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities required. Excellent interpersonal skills to work with employees at all levels: exempt and non-exempt and at all locations, statewide. Superior oral and written communication skills with prior experience delivering information to broad and diverse audiences. Preferred: Workday experience; immigration experience; higher education experience; advanced degree.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
