Job Description: The LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station is inviting applicants for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Landscape Horticulture. This is a 12-month tenure track position - 70% Extension and 30% research. The successful candidate would be expected to develop and coordinate extension programming to support the commercial landscape industry and develop best management practices for urban and rural landscapes, while promoting environmental stewardship. The specialist will work collaboratively with other LSU AgCenter faculty, provide training opportunities for LSU AgCenter Extension Agents, and will be actively involved in organizing educational programs, workshops, field days, social media, and participating in educational events throughout the state.

The successful candidate will take an active role in the ongoing ornamental plant trials at the Hammond Research Station, collaborating with Hammond Research Station faculty and staff in support of current programming, demonstrations, and displays within the Hammond Gardens.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized research program focusing on environmental horticulture, with an emphasis on landscapes. Particular research areas may include but are not limited to ecological impacts of landscapes and the future outlook of commercial and residential landscapes, landscape plant physiology, the role of landscapes on urban ecosystems, or water management. A candidate capable of applying a systems approach to address environmental and ecological issues in the landscape is preferred. Post-doctoral experience with evidence of collaborative research and potential for procuring extramural funding is preferred.

Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science or another appropriate agriculture-related field is required. Good interpersonal skills and leadership abilities are required for working effectively with diverse professional and lay audiences and cooperators. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with diverse audiences including scientific peers, clientele, and agribusiness representatives. Development of scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles and educational curricula/programs for appropriate publications/journals and other outlets, including LSU AgCenter Extension publications, is required for professional development.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
