(This is a 12 month, grant funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.
Nature of Work: Responsibilities include: (1) independent research and process development for cryopreserving germplasm from amphibians including relevant reproductive biology. (2) collaboration with technology-development engineers to produce practical devices for germplasm repositories. (3) close coordination and outreach for repository development with national stock centers that provide amphibians for biomedical research. (4) Development of manuscripts and conference presentations to disseminate information on work performed. Work after hours including weekends will be required periodically. Familiarity with cryogenic processes, amphibian husbandry and cryobiology are strongly preferred including a background in conservation of imperiled species.
Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and additional graduate training in biological sciences, genetics, or related field. Strong experience in aquatic species genetic resources and biology, cryobiology, cryopreservation, experimental design, and statistical analysis is preferred. Previous supervision of undergraduate and graduate students is highly desirable. Candidates must have strong written and oral communication skills.
