(This is a two year grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 09/30/2021. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.
Work Location: Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.
Responsibilities: Conduct independent research projects on enhancing plant resistance to fungal diseases through better understanding at the molecular level of the host-pathogen interactions in maize with Aspergillus flavus, and in soybean with Cercospora cf. flagellaris and Phakopsora pachyrhizi. The responsibilities of this position include conducting independent research activities under the supervision of the PI, proving field and greenhouse support for maize and soybean projects, producing and purifying dsRNAs for greenhouse and field studies, helping to supervise and train graduate students and student workers to ensure a smooth operation of the laboratory, etc.
Qualification Requirements: M. S. or PhD degree in plant biology, plant pathology or other related field. Excellent skills in molecular biology techniques, such as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, protein separation, molecular cloning, RT-PCR and other recombinant DNA techniques, are required as is willingness to learn new techniques. Experience in RNAi, small RNA isolation and detection, is a plus. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to interact and collaborate with other scientists are essential to the success of the research. A valid Louisiana State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.
