Assistant Professor - Research
(Marine Ecology/DEB Modeling)
(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through October 2021. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.
Nature of Work: A multi-investigator team based at LSU AgCenter is seeking a PhD level researcher to contribute to work exploring physiological responses of the eastern oyster to environmental stressors using lab, field and through dynamic energy budget modeling (DEB). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Ecology or related field and experience working with DEB models. The ideal candidate will have well-developed skills in DEB modeling with a background in marine ecology, shellfish physiology, or estuarine ecology. Competitive candidates will be capable of conceiving and implementing lab experiments to provide data to support modeling, contribute to the conceptual development and expansion of DEB models, develop and apply for research funding, a strong publication record and a desire to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
Qualification Requirements: Applicant must hold a PhD. in marine or biological sciences or a related field and have previously published on DEB modeling and bivalves. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) demonstrated ability working with DEB models, (2) experience working with Octave, MATLAB and other programming languages, (3) laboratory experience exploring ecophysiology of bivalves and other organisms, (4) motivation and initiative to work with little supervision, (5) evidence of creativity and ability to identify areas for further investigation, and (6) experience working in the field and collecting field and laboratory data. Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, and collaborate as part of a team critical.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
