Work Location: This position is a regional agent to support existing educational programs and new initiatives for the LSU AgCenter.The agent will be administratively domiciled at the LSU AgCenter’s Dean Lee Research and Extension Center near the LSU A&M – Alexandria campus in Alexandria, Louisiana. Primary responsibilities will include activities across the Northwest, Central, and Northeast Regions but a narrower focus may be identified during the selection process.

Position Description: This is a non-tenure track and regional level position that will have responsibilities for supporting Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service (LCES) animal science programs and implementing statewide initiatives across the assigned area.The position will support stakeholder visits, demonstrations, workshops, and educational meetings. The agent will contribute to and disseminate LSU AgCenter recommendations through written, oral, video, website, and social media communications for the parishes regions, and state.The successful candidate for this position will be required to prepare a strategic plan for the development and execution of an educational program for the assigned areas emphasizing livestock production interests and needs, and strengthening the Louisiana Master Cattleman Programs.The incumbent is expected to perform other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor(s) and work cooperatively with other LSU AgCenter faculty. The agent must be willing to continue professional development.Depending on the background of the selected candidate, the position may also serve as coordinator for regional animal science programs which will involve coordination of LCES animal science agents in these regions to deliver programming for commercial scale operation, small herds, and 4H livestock activities. The agent will be responsible for working with advisory committees and livestock agents within the parishes and regions to identify stakeholder needs, develop programs that respond to those needs, and to assess program impact on stakeholders.

Qualification Requirements:A baccalaureate degree (MS or PhD preferred) degree in animal science, agronomy, environmental sciences, agriculture, or closely related area is required. Must have an undergraduate degree with an overall grade-point average of at least 2.5 (all GPA requirements based on a 4.0 system) and a 3.0 for graduate work attempted, if any, or master’s degree or a current grade-point average of at least 3.0 on at least 12 hours of graduate credit. This applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.Prior experience in county or state animal science programs is desirable.The candidate must be an effective communicator, possess the ability to utilize mass media in outreach programs, work cooperatively with individuals and groups, and plan and execute educational programs for both small herdsmen and commercial livestock operations.Demonstration of a practical and working knowledge of livestock best management production and environmental sustainability practices is desired.

Conditions of Employment: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required (travel allowance provided).Satisfactory completion of two specific graduate level extension courses (6 credit hours) is generally required in the first two years of employment.Additionally, a faculty member who does not have a related master’s degree must complete an additional 9 hours of related graduate level coursework in order to be promoted to associate agent and such promotion must occur in the first seven years of employment.An exception is that additional agent experience may be substituted for nine hours of coursework, but not for the two required courses.
