(Medical Research Program Chemist)
LOCATION: School of Plant, Environmental & Soil Sciences, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA
POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center’s Medical Research Program seeks to fill a grant funded, non-tenure track position in Analytical and Extraction Chemistry.This is a 12-month appointment and has primary responsibilities in research support.The academic rank will be determined at hire.This position will be administratively part of the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences.The employee will perform laboratory tests to determine chemical compositions of extracted plant material.In addition, the employee will perform extractions of plant material through a variety of techniques, including but not limited to, ethanol, supercritical CO2, and isobutane.The employee will be required to adhere to and support the laboratory’s Quality Management System based on ISO 17025 standards and to follow standard operating procedures.Duties and responsibilities include: perform analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned; assist and perform setup and operation of laboratory equipment; calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management System; clean and sterilize laboratory equipment; prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas; record test results on standardized forms; understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into LIMS database; ability to read and comprehend all analytical methods, including safety standards, other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory; perform other duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or a closely related field. A strong science background and experience is preferred.
