Research Associate

(Community Nutrition)

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is for a Research Associate (Family and Consumer Sciences) for a Healthy Communities state-wide project that will work under the supervision and direction of the grant Principal Investigator (PI) and Evaluation Co-PI.The Healthy Communities project will promote community-driven policy, systems and environmental interventions to address the nutrition and physical activity environments in targeted parishes. The individual will provide daily oversight and implementation of the project evaluation activities during the project period. The associate will travel to target parishes throughout the state to collect data for the project and programs. Other responsibilities include: reporting evaluation activities and impacts; develop data collection protocols; develop and deliver research and evaluation presentations and reports, including technical reports, professional abstracts and other technical documents as needed; and contribute to short and long range evaluation planning. Coordination and collaboration with other LSU AgCenter Extension faculty as well as the Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Southern University Ag Center staff will be essential.This position will require overnight travel and work on evenings and weekends occasionally. This individual must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including word processing, publishing, spreadsheet software as well as presentation software such as PowerPoint.Proficiency in SPSS or other statistical software is desired. This individual must be willing to maintain professional competence as a faculty member of the LSU AgCenter.The associate is expected to perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor(s).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a subject area appropriate to the position responsibilities; at least two years of professional and/or evaluation experience; experience working with the public and evidence of effective public relations skills; excellent computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet); experience and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and public speaking; seasoned problem-solving skills; ability to work with diverse audiences; ability and willingness to take initiative and to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously, have flexibility and adaptability to work in a continuously changing environment; be self-motivated and assertive yet diplomatic; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to quickly assess situations, think broadly and logically, make appropriate decisions that account for broad consequences; and a valid Louisiana’s Driver’s License.Ability to work with and through others is essential, as is the ability to function with minimum supervision.
