WORK LOCATION: School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The School of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the Louisiana State University AgCenter seeks one postdoctoral researcher to work in the community nutrition program of Dr. Denise Holston. The selected applicant will work on Healthy Communities research, evaluation and extension activities. The Healthy Communities project is an obesity prevention project that promotes community-driven policy, systems and environmental (PSEs) change strategies (interventions) to address the nutrition and physical activity environments in targeted parishes, with a focus on rural locations where obesity is prevalent.
Responsibilities include: Assist in the development and validation of PSE change strategy interventions and evaluation protocol and instrumentation. Develop technical and scholarly communications related to process, outcomes, and impacts of PSE change strategies facilitated by the LSU AgCenter Family and Consumer Science agents. Document protocol and conduct research focused on the feasibility and effectiveness of PSE strategies in different locations and among different sectors. Manage weekly progress of graduate students. Train graduate students in research/program protocol and data collection techniques. Present scholarly activity at scientific and professional conferences and submit publications in peer-reviewed journals. Develop collaborative relationships with practitioners and networks in the field.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A PhD from an accredited institution in nutrition, dietetics, public health or other relevant field and experience in community nutrition and translational research. Demonstrated experience in community nutrition and/or public health. Experience working with the public and evidence of effective human relation skills; excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite); experience and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and public speaking among a variety of clientele with emphasis on professional groups; proficiency in statistical software packages, such as SPSS. A minimum of an “emerging” record of scientific accomplishment by peer-reviewed publications is a must for this position. A valid Louisiana’s Driver’s License is also required.
