Assistant Professor - Research

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: Rice Research Station, LSU AgCener, Rayne, La.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is a full-time 12-month, non-tenure track position to be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor - Research.The incumbent will work collaboratively as a member of the Rice Breeding project, located at the Rice Research Station in Rayne, LA.The principal responsibilities of the position will be to conduct applied molecular breeding activities related to rice variety development. This position will also conduct research on gene and marker discovery and validation. Specific activities include planning and analyzing marker data related to marker-assisted selection, germplasm and foundation seed purity, overseeing a high-throughput SNP genotyping laboratory, and coordinating molecular breeding and genotyping jobs. In addition, the position will be involved in the discovery and validation of SNP trait markers, including haplotype analysis, QTL mapping, and fine mapping. The position requires the ability to prioritize daily research needs, organize and co-lead other research personnel, and plan, analyze, and communicate research findings. Responsibilities will also include greenhouse and field work.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or related field and experience working in an applied plant breeding program. Experience in planning and implementing applied molecular breeding activities related to marker-assisted selection, genomic selection, germplasm purity and characterization, and native trait marker discovery and validation.Expertise in DNA extraction protocols, lab optimization, KASP SNP genotyping, LGC SNPline genotyping platform, and SNP genotyping troubleshooting. Demonstrated ability of growing and managing plants in a greenhouse environment. Experience with applied rice variety development or commercial breeding programs is desired.
