Finger foods and appetizers make for a great buffet, are typically easy to prepare, and taste so good. When I think of finger foods and buffets, one thing that usually comes to mind is some kind of dip, spread, or sauce for the crackers, veggies, or other finger foods you find on a tray. One easy dip that packs protein and other nutrients is hummus. It is so easy to make yourself and is inexpensive to do so. Hummus pairs great with whole-wheat crackers, cut up fresh vegetables, pita chips, or pretzels. You can even use it as a spread on sandwiches. Give this easy recipe a try.
Puree beans, garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice in a food processor, or mash together using a potato masher or fork. Add sugar, cumin, pepper, and salt. Blend until smooth, for about two minutes. Transfer to a bowl, cover, and chill for at least one hour before serving. Serve with whole-wheat crackers or fresh cut up vegetables.
