The Louisiana 4-H Youth Development Program and the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center are proud to announce the 2024 Father-Son Overnight Camp to be held October 25-27 at Camp Grant Walker. This program is open to all current 4th-8th grade 4-H members and will include activities including archery, fishing, woodworking, along with various other outdoor skills and experiences including an evening of primitive tent camping with Dad under the majestic pines of Camp Grant Walker. (NOTE: Tent and equipment for primitive camp-out not provided. Tent, sleeping bag, lantern, etc. are required for participation in the primitive night out.)
To register your child for this program, please Log-In to your family 4-H Online Account and search for: Camp Grant Walker Father-Son Camp -- 10/25-27. If you have questions about how to register, contact the 4-H Office. Please ensure that you complete all questions, sign/accept all required consent forms, and click “Submit” at end of registration process.

Ms. Lekeisha attended the 2024 LAE4-HYDP Convention in West Monroe where she presented two posters showcasing programs conducted in East Carroll Parish 4-H; and she was recognized for her 10-years of service with the LSU AgCenter.

4-H and HYPE Teen Leadership Club held its annual kick-off meeting attended by more than 30 teens. The club honored graduating scholarship recipients (former Jr. Leaders) and award winners before they left for college.

Ulaila Martin, President of the East Carroll 4-H Junior Leader Club, represented 4-H at the East Carroll Parish Library during an event with the Children's Coalition.

Congratulations to Laila Lucas on being selected to serve on the 4-H State Fashion Board.

Southside 4th & 5th Grades' first club meeting of the year. Youth learned the vital role pollinators play in our food supply and sustainability, in addition to the 4 Bs of Pollination: bees, bats, butterflies, and birds.

Help celebrate our 4-H program during National 4-H Week: October 6th-12th. Be creative, be innovative, and do what you can to make a positive difference in your school and community. Show your pride by sponsoring school activities throughout the week and help get others to share enthusiasm.
Dress-up Themes (Monday-Friday): Post pictures and tag East Carroll 4-H on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc., using hashtags like #National4HWeek, #4HStrong, #4HFamily, #4HUniversity, #4HService, etc.

Promote Breast Cancer Awareness
Help design the 2025 Official State Livestock Show T-shirt sold at District and State shows. Get your art set and use your skills to design the back of the Official LSU AgCenter Livestock show T-shirt. (If you have an idea for the T-shirt color, include that as well with your submission.) Colored designs should only include purple, green, gold, and white. The winner of the design contest will have their artwork design on the shirt, receive a free long or short sleeve State Livestock Show T-shirt, $25 check or money order, and recognition. One entry per person and one person per entry. Submit your drawing in color via email to Becky Gautreaux by 12 p.m. on October 18th.
Prizes will be awarded for the following: most original, most unusual, funniest, scariest, and 4-H.
Design our 2025 East Carroll Parish Summer Camp T-shirt. Enter our first Parish T-shirt Design Contest for summer camp. All 4-H’ers attending summer camp will receive a T-shirt designed by the winner.
Submissions must include the following on the back:
Send in your most creative ideas for a slogan in seven words or less. Illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. Contest is open to all 4-H club members. Winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy,” capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. Artwork and slogan will be used in its entirety or used as the concept for the final artwork. Logo and slogan will be on all publicity for camp and the camp T-shirt, and the winner will receive a $50 monetary award.

4-H is a positive youth development organization delivered through the LSU AgCenter. In 4-H, members complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture, and citizenship in a positive environment where they can receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Join 4-H today! The club with the highest percentage of enrollment will win an ice cream or cupcake party. The deadline to register is Friday, November 1st.
On November 11th of each year, the nation honors all living military veterans. Veterans are men and women who have served in any branch of the United States Military, such as the Aire Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force. To honor the brave men and women who fought for this country, the East Carroll Parish 4-H Program 4-H members will write thank you cards to be delivered to the local nursing home and Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home. All cards are due on Monday, November 4th.

The Parish 4-H Commodity Cookery Contests will be held on two days, Tuesday, November 19th and Wednesday, November 20th, with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. each day. All 4-H members may enter any or all categories. Only one dish per category, please. Only one serving per contest entry is required. All entries must arrive on ice in a hard insulated ice chest-type carrier. Entries must be dropped off at the 4-H Office between 8 and 9 a.m. Please make sure you bring the correct serving on the correct day! See your leader or contact Ms. Lucas for more details.

The 4-H Day of Service will be held Saturday, December 7th. This year's service project will be park clean-up. We encourage everyone to participate in 4-H Day of Service.
This year’s 4-H Night at the Pelicans game is going to be exciting! the New Orleans Pelicans will play against Utah Jazz on Friday, January 17, 2025. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. There is a block of seats reserved for 4-H, but they are first-come first-served.
The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, December 9th.

The Louisiana 4-H Record Book Contest is a traditional event where members choose a project area, develop skills, and document their growth. East Carroll Parish 4-H will host its annual competition with top entries advancing to the state level. The deadline is April 4, 2025. All entries will be recognized at Awards Day. The 4-H junior leader experience is designed to provide members with the opportunity to learn about the qualities and competencies needed to be a leader. Junior leaders provide assistance with 4-H events and assume more challenging leadership roles. Our Junior Leader program is a great place to experience new things, complete service-learning projects, meet new friends, travel, and learn the leadership skills necessary in the world.
