Holiday Livestock Photo Contest

Calling all Louisiana 4-H’ers! Submit a photo for the statewide Holiday Livestock Photo Contest. Your photo could be featured on the LSU AgCenter’s social media on Christmas Day! The rules are simple. Take a holiday-themed photo with your livestock. Go to East Carroll Parish 4-H’s Facebook Page and find this post. Submit your photo in the comments. Multiple entries will be accepted. The deadline to enter is December 16th at 11:59 p.m.

Holiday Card Contest

Feeling festive? Get in the holiday spirit by using your creativity to design a card for nursing home residents in East Carroll Parish. The best part about this event is the 2-for-1 feature: a 4-H contest and service project rolled into one! Contest entries will be forwarded to Cypress at Lake Providence. Due December 16th.

• Entries must be the member’s original design on an 8.5 x 5.5-inch (or 5.5 x 8.5-inch) paper.
• Members are encouraged to incorporate a “holiday” theme and may include the 4-H name or emblem. A greeting/message should be included in the design.
• Include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back of the card.

4-H Senior Honor Cords

The 4-H Honor Cord has the following requirements:

• Must be a graduating senior.
• Must have 3 years of 4-H club work in high school.
• Must have participated in at least 1 state sponsored 4-H program with the last 3 years.
• Must complete required application.

Application due: February 10th

Draw a Dairy Billboard Contest

Learn more about milk and milk products and their importance to healthy bodies by drawing a dairy “billboard.” Demonstrate your communication skills in the drawing by encouraging or promoting the consumption of milk and/or milk products. Share your knowledge with others. Sponsored by the Louisiana Dairy Industry Promotion Board and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.

Divisions:

Rules and Regulations:

• Draw a billboard that encourages or promotes the consumption of milk and milk products from Dairy Cattle ONLY.
• Billboard design must be made on 22”x28” regular poster board size only.
• Do NOT attach anything to the poster that is more than ½” thick.
• Do not use the commercial brand names of products on the poster. Do not use jingles, slogans, signs, or pictures that are trademark or copyright protected on the poster.
• BE SURE to print your name, address, grade in school, and parish on the back of the poster in the upper right-hand corner. Please fill out the reporting form completely.
• A 4-H club member is allowed to win 1stplace in each division ONLY ONCE.
• Posters are due by March 1st.

The 2023 LBIC Beef Poster Contest Theme is “Beef: A Sustainable Choice.”

Scott Foundation Scholarship

Scott Foundation Scholarship applications are due by March 1st. Submit completed application by 4:30 p.m. to the 4-H office.

2023 Citizenship Washington Focus Trip

We have not locked in our dates yet, but it is our intention for our delegation to attend during the week of June 25-July 1, 2023, or July 2-8, 2023. The entire week will be focused on citizenship and leadership skills.

Through Citizenship Washington Focus, teens experience Washington, D.C. like never before. Using the nation’s capital as their classroom, CWF connects young leaders from across the country to gain the skills and experiences to become effective change agents.

Participants must be ages 14-19, and a current 4-H member and maintain active membership in 4-H through the conference year. Once all spots have filled, the remaining who signed up will be put on an alternate list. The alternate list will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cost of the trip is $2,500 per participant. The $2,500 is the responsibility of the participating youth delegate to pay in full by April 30, 2023. There will be a down payment requirement of $300 due when signing up for a spot in the CWF2023 experience. Youth delegates are encouraged to work with their 4-H agents to find local sponsors and to fundraise. We will provide several examples of donor solicitation letters.
