St. John the Baptist Parish ALC Meeting

January 23, 2024

River Parishes Community College

11:30 a.m. – 1:05 p.m.

Andre’ Brock opened the meeting at 11:42 a.m. Then he gave an overview of the ALC meeting which is a combination of the program areas offered by LSU AgCenter.

Everyone was asked to introduce themselves to the group.

Patti Rodrigue shared the Louisiana Ag Literacy Program with the group. The 2024 book is entitled Honeybee. They are seeking volunteers to visit Louisiana elementary school classrooms and read the book to the students. Registered volunteers with each receive a copy of the book, an educator’s guide, and bookmarks. Volunteers may schedule readings anytime from January through May 2024.The book is then donated to the teacher. Registration is open until April 1, 2024 or while supplies last.

March 18-22, 2024, has been declared National Ag Week.

Ruth Montgomery shared information about St. Timothy’s Community Garden Project.

Andre’ then shared the ALC Agenda with everyone.

Advisory Leadership Council (ALC) purpose is to

  • Obtain stakeholder input.

  • Introduce you to the LCES programming process.

Nutrition and Community Health

Rinalda is 100% Flavors of Health, she is a general nutrition agent and can teach everyone. Rinalda then gave everyone a copy of the 2024 Calendar along with her herb for the month.
