EBR Welcomes Dr. Dewanna Bandy Drewery

Dr DreweryjpgDr. Dewanna Bandy Drewery is an Assistant Extension Agent for the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program for East Baton Rouge Parish. She began her position with LSU AgCenter in January of 2022. Dr. Drewery is a Tennessean who holds a professional teaching license in Health, Physical Education, and Driver Education. She has taught wellness courses in secondary education for 21 years. She received her BS in Health from Austin Peay State University. Since she has an interest in health promotion and disease prevention, Dr. Drewery studied Community Health Education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, earning an MPH. Dr. Drewery also has an EdS specializing in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University. She has earned her EdD in Curriculum and Planning from Tennessee State University. As a result of her highly effective teaching strategies, she was awarded East Baton Rouge Parish School System Teacher of the Year in 2021.

As a wellness educator, Dr. Drewery strives to implement engaging culturally responsive activities and programs that promote healthy living. Her dissertation, "The Impact of Nutritional Choices on Wellness in Adolescent Females in Middle Tennessee" reveals individuals learn by imitating, therefore it’s imperative to instill healthy behaviors when we are young. Dr. Drewery is eager to instill her strong pedagogy and curriculum expertise to innovate, educate and improve lives in the East Baton Rouge community.
