2018 Official State Livestock Show T-Shirt Design Contest

WHO: 4-H Members (One entry per person and one person per entry)

WHAT: Help design the 2019 Official State Livestock Show T-Shirt sold at district and state shows!

WHY: The winner of the design contest will have their artwork printed on the shirt, receive a free long or short sleeve State Livestock Show T-shirt, $25 cash, and recognition.

HOW: Get out your art set and use your skills to design the back of the Official Livestock show t-shirt. (If you have an idea for the t-shirt color include that as well with your submission.) Colored designs should only include purple, green, gold, and white.

Submit your drawing in color to your parish 4-H agent by 11:00 am on October 24, 2018.

4-H Camp Grant Walker Needs Your Ideas! “Catch-phrase for Camp” Contest!

What’s a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp and Lost Camp? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan -- in 7 words or less. To enable the campers once again to have more choice in the design of their T-shirts, illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. The contest is open to all 4-H Club members. The winning

slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy”, capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The slogan will be on all publicity for camp and on the camp T-shirt and the winner will receive a monetary award.

Think fast – the deadline is Wednesday, October 31, 2018!

Submissions must also include the following:

  • Full name and age of person submitting the slogan
  • Parish/4-H Club
  • Complete mailing address
  • Telephone number

The LAE4-HA Ways and Means Committee and the 4-H Camp Staff will judge contest entries. After final selection, we will notify the winners. Inorder for camp to use their slogan and picture to promote summer camp, as well as to use the slogan on our camp T-shirt, the winners will sign a release form. Both the 4-H’er and parent/guardian must sign the release form.

Deadline for receipt of 4-H Summer Camp and Lost Camp entries is Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Individuals maysubmit multiple entries and send together.

Please make sure to indicate whether you entry/entries is/are for 4-H Summer Camp or Lost Camp.

Backyard Buddies Club

Backyard BuddiespngThe EBRP Backyard Buddies Club will continue this year for those interested in a small animal project. While it will focus primarily on a Cloverbud and elementary level, all members are welcome. The first meeting will be October 11 and November 6 at Central Library, 11260 Joor Rd., Baton Rouge. Challenge Camp

4-H Challenge Camp is one of the most valuable experiences a young person can have. It’s a learning experience that allows boys and girls to appreciate the outdoors, to live together as a group, to get along with others and toappreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. The activities at 4-H Challenge Camp encourage youth to create team spirit; build self-reliance skills; improve leadership, communication and problem-solving skills; and enhance their self-esteem while developing new friendships.

When: November 14th – 16th, 2018
Departure: We will leave at 3:30 p.m. on November 14th and meet at the 4-H Extension office

Return: We will return at 10:00 a.m. on November 16, 2018 to the 4-H Extension office.

EBRP is Shooting for Excellence!

The EBRP 4-H Shooting Sports Club is ready to get started and welcome new members! Interested in joining Shooting Sports and not quite sure what it is? 4-H Shooting Sports is an activity for everyone — girls, boys, young and old, urban and rural. Participation is not limited by skill or physical abilities. The 4-H Shooting Sports is open to any 4-H youth between the ages of 9-19. The four shooting disciplines offered in East Baton Rouge Parish — archery, air pistol, air rifle, and shotgun — are taught by a National or State Certified Instructor.

The Mandatory Training Day will take place October 6 from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the 4-H property located at 8300 Comite Acres Drive in Baker. This training is MANDATORY for all new or previous members taking on a new discipline. First year members may only take part in one discipline. Horse Club

HorsepngThe EBRP 4-H Horse Club is ready to gallop into a new year! We have an exciting year planned, full of workshops, trainings, and plenty of hands-on activities for our very own horse enthusiasts. The next meetings will be held on October 2 and November 6 at 6:00 p.m. at MaPe’s Diner Co(6643 Sullivan Rd, Greenwell Springs). Livestock Club News

The East Baton Rouge Parish Livestock Club meets once a month at 6:00 p.m. at the Gas Utility in Zachary. This project club is for anyone who is interested in raising and showing livestock. Our next meetings will be October 2 and November 13. For more information, please contact Mr. Jessie or Mrs. Rochelle.

Paper Clover Fundraiser

Paper Clover FundraiserpngTractor Supply Co. will once again host the Paper Clover Fundraiser at the Zachary location from October 3-15. This fundraiser helps support local and state wide 4-H Programs. Contributing is easy, just pay $1 for your clover when checking out at your next Tractor Supply Co. visit!

Support Our Program

The EBRP Livestock Club will host a Jambalaya Sale on Saturday, October 6 at the Zachary Tractor Supply location (1011 Main Street Zachary. Food pick-up will be from 11:30 am -1:30 pm. Tickets for plates will be $7 and orders can be placed by contacting Mr. Jessie or Mrs. Rochelle or purchased from a Livestock Club member.

Upcoming Camps & More…

Throughout the year, 4-H hosts numerous camps and events open to any member interested. These camps range from different focuses with different topics. Please see the list below of upcoming camps that may interest you. If interested, please contact the 4-H Office by the appropriate date to register.


Fashion Camp will be held at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA on January 26-27, 2018. This camp focuses on 10-13 year olds. Deadline to register December 1. This year’s theme will be “4-H Fashion Safari”.
