The EBRP 4-H Program will host 4-H Fun Fridays during October in conjunction with the Burden Center Hay Maze. We invite you to come out and explore the 4 acre hay maze, climb the hay mountain, try the giant sling shots, visit the petting zoo and much more! This year’s functions will take place on Friday October 7, October 14, October 21, and October 28. This activity is open to all Elementary Schools and registration forms can be obtained through the 4-H Office for school field trips.
Get ready to get messy! All 4-H’ers in grades 7-12 are invited to join us at MESS FEST 2016! Meet Ms. Katie and other Junior Leaders on October 19th at 6:00 p.m. at the LSU AgCenter’s Burden Center. Be prepared for some deliciously messy fun!
The EBRP Backyard Buddies Club will continue this year for those interested in a small animal project. While it will focus primarily on Cloverbud and elementary level, all members are welcome. The next meeting will be Thursday, Oct 20 at 6:30 p.m at the EBRP 4-H Office.
The EBRP 4-H Shooting Sports Club is ready to get started and welcome new members! This year Ms. Katie and instructors decided to offer a Hunter’s Education class. The Hunter’s Education Class will be offered to all youth either residing or attending school in EBRP at no charge except for the $5.00 4-H membership fee for non-members. The class will begin Friday, October 7th from 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries located at 2000 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge in the Louisiana room. Classes will resume at 8:00 a.m. October 8th and will end at approximately 2:00 p.m. To register please call the parish office at (225) 389-3055. All participants must pre-register !
Interested in joining Shooting Sports and not quite sure what it is? 4-H Shooting Sports is an activity for everyone — girls, boys, young and old, urban and rural. Participation is not limited by skill or physical abilities. The 4-H Shooting Sports is open to any 4-H youth between the ages of 9-19. The four shooting disciplines offered in East Baton Rouge Parish — archery, air pistol, air rifle, and shotgun — are taught by a National or State Certified Instructor.
The Mandatory Training Day will take place October 22nd from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the 4-H property located at 8300 Comite Acres Drive in Baker. This training is MANDATORY for all new or previous members taking on a new discipline. First year members may only take part in one discipline. The EBRP 4-H Horse Club is ready to gallop into a new year! We have an exciting year planned, full of workshops, trainings, and plenty of hands-on activities for our very own horse enthusiasts. Monthly meetings will be held at Shady Park Arena in Greenwell Springs. Due to the recent flooding we have not scheduled our first meeting date yet. Stay tuned for updates! The Junior Leader Club is a service-based club where members become more involved in their communities through fun, interactive programs. We’ll explore leadership in new ways, get involved, and share experiences. You’ll want to be a part of this!
The East Baton Rouge Parish Livestock Club will host the next club meeting on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m., location TBA This club is for any members interested in raising and showing livestock. For more information, please contact Ms. Katie.

We know that 4-H youth are making extraordinary changes in their communities every day. Now it's time to share their faces with the world. Express your 4-H pride with this year’s theme, “#4-HGrown.” From October 2 - 8 post a picture of yourself and use “#4HGrown” when posting. Spread the Word of 4-H and show your pride!
Beyond social media, spread the word about National 4-H Week by hanging posters, notify your local newspapers and television news stations about the six million young people empowered by 4-H every day. Share what you do to make a difference and have fun!
Tractor Supply Co. will once again host the Paper Clover Fundraiser at the Zachary location from October 4-15. This fundraiser helps support local and state wide 4-H Programs. Contributing is easy, just pay $1 for your clover when checking out at your next Tractor Supply visit!
The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair will host several home economics divisions open for junior participation. There will be 3 divisions: 8 and under, 9-13 and 14 and up. Youth may enter one item per class. The categories include:
Artwork: Collage, Crayon Drawing, Painting, Photograph, Sketch (charcoal, pencil or pastel), Any other
Handicraft: Birdhouse, Christmas Item, Jewelry, Any Other
Baked Goods: Brownies, Candy, Cookies
Recycled/Reclaimed: Plastic Bottle, Aluminum Can, Wood, Clothing, Any Other
All Jr. Home Economics Exhibit items need to be dropped off between 10am and 12:30pm on Nov. 5. Judging starts at 1pm.
All Exhibits are to be picked up by 4 p.m. on November 5, 2016.
Premiums will be awarded: Blue $3, Red $2, White $1 (There will be an Overall Supreme Award)
The EBRP Livestock Club will host a Jambalaya Sale on Saturday, October 15 at the Zachary Tractor Supply location. Plates will be $7 and orders can be placed by contacting Ms. Katie or purchased from a Livestock Club member.
Join 4-H for a day of tailgating and football on November 19, 2016 as the fighting tigers take on South Alabama in this super match-up! All 4-H members and their families are invited to a huge tailgate party at Parker Coliseum beginning at 9 a.m.
