4-H U "Channel Your Leadership"

4-H U logo.Call (318) 323-2251 to preregister. Spots are limited. There is a $50 deposit & registration form due to hold a spot. The deadline is May 17. 4-H University is scheduled for June 17-21. Cost is approximately $250. Scholarships & fundraisers are available. Each year 4-H members who are in the 8th-12th grade as of August 1, 2023, are eligible to participate in 4-H University to demonstrate their skills in more than 30+ competitive events. It is a culmination of a 4-H member’s year of hard work & dedication.

Camp Grant Walker 4-H Summer Camp

Summer Camp logo.“Packed Full of Fun, Friends, & Memories!” It’s time to begin making your plans to attend 4-H Summer Camp! This year our camp week is July 1-4, 2024 (Camp Week 6). To attend, you must be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade AND be enrolled in Ouachita 4-H. Some of the activities you can do at camp are swimming, canoeing/kayaking, archery, tubing, arts & crafts…a GREAT WAY to spend a week in the summer! The $50 nonrefundable deposit (cash only!) is due by Friday April 26. The total camp fee, $250 (cash only!), is due by Friday, May 31. Jr. Leader Meeting

7th-12th graders, join us Thursday, April 25, 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the 4-H office as we prepare “Warm Hugs” tie blankets to be assembled at RiverFest for Global Youth Service Day! We will be making plans for 4-H U as well! The 25th is also a garden workday from 4-5 pm, portfolio workshop from 5:15-6:15 pm, then Jr. Leaders from 6:30-8:00 pm. Make plans to attend all 3 if you’d like! Reach out if you need a ride!

Learning Garden Spring Workday

Raised bed garden & tools.Join us Thursday, April 25, 4-5 pm at 517 Marion Street in Monroe as we work in the raised garden beds & try a healthy snack! The Learning Garden aims to create a vibrant environment where students can directly experience the joys & benefits of growing their own food, while also gaining insights into the broader concepts of agriculture, nutrition, & environmental stewardship. The garden provides a space where students from elementary, middle, & high school levels can engage in experiential learning that transcends the confines of traditional classrooms.

NELA Children's Museum Farm Day

Come see bunnies, goats, & chickens on display in the 4-H section of Farm Day, Saturday, April 20, 10 am – 12 pm at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum, located at 323 Walnut Street in Monroe!

Ouachita 4-H Dance

Ouachita 4-H Dance QR Code.4th & 5th graders, join us for a night of fun, Thursday, May 23, 6-9 pm at the West Monroe Civitan Club, 144 Aulds Rd., West Monroe. Admission is $10 & concessions will be $2 each. Come dressed as your favorite Disney character! Parents, please do not just drop your child off. Ouachita 4-H Photography Contest "Ouachita In Bloom"

  • Open to all 4-H members
  • Photos must include some type of bloom in Ouachita Parish
  • Photos may also include people & other subjects, but the focal point must be on the blooms
  • 8x10 mounted photo (black & white or color) must be mounted on 10x12 black mount board
  • One entry per contestant
  • Add a one-line caption below the photo
  • Label with name, grade, & school name on the back of the mounting board
  • Photos must be taken by the exhibitor during 2023 or 2024
  • Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners!

Ouachita Riverfest Livestock Lane and Live Duck Race

Duck.Make plans to visit the Ouachita 4-H Livestock Lane at Riverfest, Saturday, April 27, 12-5 pm in downtown West Monroe! While you’re there, catch a live duck race, where 4-H members will race the Indian Runner Ducks they raised every 30 minutes from 12-5! The livestock show team will be selling Lucky Ducks with clovers to raise money at the duck race. Each lucky duck comes with 2 tickets to place in the bucket of the duck you think will win the race. At the end of each race door prize winners will be drawn from the bucket of the winning duck.

Pet Show

Pet Show QR Code.Save the date! Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the West Monroe Tractor Supply Parking Lot on Mane Street! The 4-H Pet Show is open to all 4-H’ers. Pre-registration is due by Friday, April 19 by using the QR code or link: https://forms.office.com/r/JPaJVtvk8s?origin=lprLink. Registration begins at 9:30 am; contest begins at 10 am. Categories: Best Dressed, Best Groomed, Best Trick, Cutest, & Most Unusual. 4-H’ers may enter all categories, but they may not enter 2 animals in the same category. Prizes will be given to 1st Place Winners in each category. We will be collecting dog food, treats, & supplies to donate to a local animal shelter. If you would like to participate, please bring your donation of canned dog food, bleach, blue Dawn dish washing liquid, old blankets or towels, Milk Bone dog treats, braided rope, tennis balls or chew toys to the Pet Show. Please do not bring rawhide chews or dry dog food.

Photography Club

Instead of a meeting for April, photography club members have the opportunity to assist at the Ouachita River Fest to be held Saturday, April 27, 12-5 pm in downtown West Monroe!! Record keeping is an important part of every 4-H educational project, & it’s a critical skill that will help students for a lifetime. Many awards, educational trips, & college scholarships are given to club members on the basis of their records & project work. Records show your 4-H club work progress, such as leadership accomplishments, citizenship/community service involvement, awards, & recognition, etc.

Robotics Club

4th-12th graders, join our afterschool Robotics Club using the LEGO Spike Prime System! Learn coding, engineering, & compete with other teams! Held at all 3 East Ouachita Recreation Centers! Parent & youth must sign waiver upon arrival. Meeting time of 4:00-4:45 pm at LSU AgCenter, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe on the following dates: Thursday, April 18.
